These are some of the trash that we managed to pick up at the recent clean up dive at One Degree 15 Marina
It’s shocking the things we find underwater… 20ft long rubber tube, steel pipes, safety cones,, bottles, glasses, cans and even a TROLLEY!!
And these were only the things that we could actually pick up. Several times, I reached for an item underwater only to have it disintegrate into tiny particles which were just the right bite size for tiny marine organisms. Nothing we throw into the ocean actually disappear, people… They turn into tiny micro particles which would get eaten by little fish, crustaceans and organisms, which in turn get eaten by larger fish, which get eaten by us….
Next time you want to throw anything into the ocean, please ask yourself… do you want that rubbish to end up in your stomach and those of your loved ones?
